42 & Lawrence, Raleigh, NC

Website: www.42lawrence.com

Location: 134 E. Martin St., Raleigh, NC

How did they Look:

42 & Lawrence exceeds the expectations of mere coffee consumption and shoots for the high standards of the coffee connoisseur. First impressions upon entering… clean and modern. The palate…white subway tiles, crisp white marble countertops, dark woods accented by stainless steel, with floor to ceiling walls made of glass. Every time I walk into this place, I feel as if I’m inside of a high-end designed lab. The customers always seem to pair frighteningly well with the design and décor. The interior truly elevates and refines.

I chatted up one of the fabulous baristas employed at 42 & Lawrence, Jordon Glover (his shift had not started yet).

42 & Lawrence Coffee Shop barista
Barista Jordan Glover and Roma!

Jordon is a barista’s barista, a purest. And his drive to honesty and completely understand all facets of coffee certainly distills itself into the cups of wonder served to customers every day. 42 & Lawrence also has a SCA Certified Barista (what is so special about SCA certification?). There selection of coffee related literature is always available to customers to digest. I put fourth all this credentialing to explain why your mouth and your mind will consistently have an enjoyable experience at 42 & Lawrence.

How did they Taste:

I ordered the following:

Oat milk Iced Cortado: Smooth, perfect, NOT watery. The coloring was gorgeous.

42 Limited Series Roast Drip Coffee served Hot: The 42 Limited series was great. My tongue received that first burst of smooth and buttery florals. My palate does not appreciate high acidity levels found in darker roasts. I do not add sweeteners of any type to my lattes, cortados, or drip coffees because I want to enjoy the sublime creation on its own.

Whose Bean are They Using:

Larry's Coffee

Larry’s Coffee Beans are always organic, always shade grown, and always bought at a fair market price from farmers. We in the RTP are quite blessed to live near Larry’s Coffee. Anyone can go to their downtown Raleigh roasting facility and go on a tour of the place. Their facility looks like it’s ran by hippies, but I assure you their bean quality and roasting techniques are without compromise.
